The Washington Nationals, the Major League Baseball team based in the nation’s capital, have become a symbol of resilience, growth, and determination in the world of sports. Since their inception in 1969 as the Montreal Expos and their move to Washington, D.C. in 2005, the Nationals have captured the hearts of fans across the region, earning their place in baseball history with unforgettable moments and a commitment to excellence.

That being said, the past few years have been pretty painful. It feels like the 2021 season, especially at the trade deadline, was the end of an era. Strasburg perpetually on the shelf, Corbin fell off a cliff, Starlin Castro was suspended and released (and good riddance), and the team began showing ever increasing signs of cracking. It was far from the team we watched from 2012 to 2019. This all culminated in the first big move on our rebuilding adventure, The trade of Scherzer and Turner. What would follow would be more trades and opening day lineups touting such players as Maikel Franco, Cesar Hernandez, Yadiel Hernandez…these are bench bats and AAA injury calls ups (though I will always have love for Yadi).

What’s worse is that we all went through this time whilst being kept informed by the most barebones, nothing articles full of empty and vapid takes that gave no real opinion or take on the team. That is a problem that we hope to rectify here at the District Diamond Report. Nationals baseball is fun, energizing, exciting, confusing, frustrating…why is Garcia trying to make that throw, c’mon! There are things that anger us as fans, but also under the radar moves that are worth being excited about. Our job is to give you this information in a way that everyone can understand. There are a lot of stories that either give you no depth or will inundate you with stats that you’ve never heard of (BQR…Bequeathed Runners…it’s a real thing, look it up, because you’ll never see it in our articles, promise you that). Our goal is to find the happy medium that you can repeat to your friends at the water cooler to make yourselves superior to all your friends.

As spring training begins, it’s time to don the Curly W, throw on your new Nike jersey (you know, the one where the name is weirdly small on the back (give us back the big letters, Manfred!) and show your Natitude! The Report will be accompanying you along the journey that will be the the 2025 season. We may laugh, we may cry, we will likely yell at the TV a couple of times out of frustration, but rest assured that the District Diamond Report will be here to help you make sense of it all.

Quote of the week

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
